Categories: ConsumersInsurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today applauded the issuance of "Shelter-in-Place-Payback" to car insurance drivers insured by Allstate and the creation of the “Return of Premium Relief Fund” by American Family Insurance. Allstate and American Family Insurance are returning savings resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Both Allstate and American Family Insurance have acknowledged that they arrived at these relief options for customers, in part, as a result of various bulletins and guidance from the North Dakota Insurance Department.

COVID-19 is a highly contagious, viral disease for which the only known method of prevention is to avoid being exposed to the virus by reducing contact with other individuals.

The bulletin urges companies to waive cost sharing requirements for the testing of COVID-19 and encourages health insurance companies to review other operations in preparation for COVID-19 potentially coming to North Dakota.

Categories: Consumers, Health InsuranceThe North Dakota Insurance Department was informed today that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has extended the Open Enrollment Period to accommodate consumers who attempted to enroll in coverage during the final hours of Open Enrollment but who may have experienced issues. The deadline to sign up for Jan. 1, 2020 coverage is now 2 a.m. CST on Dec. 18, 2019.

The events will provide Medicare beneficiaries of all ages with the opportunity to review, plan or shop for coverage options with the assistance of trained, volunteer counselors. This year, the hours of operation have been extended for the Fargo, Minot and Bismarck events, communities where attendance has been highest in past years.
