Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today applauded the issuance of "Shelter-in-Place-Payback" to car insurance drivers insured by Allstate and the creation of the “Return of Premium Relief Fund” by American Family Insurance. Allstate and American Family Insurance are returning savings resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Both Allstate and American Family Insurance have acknowledged that they arrived at these relief options for customers, in part, as a result of various bulletins and guidance from the North Dakota Insurance Department.

Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today announced the issuance of seven bulletins in response to executive orders made by Governor Doug Burgum and in the interest of protecting North Dakotans during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. COVID-19 is a highly contagious, viral disease for which the only known method of prevention is to avoid being exposed to the virus by reducing contact with other individuals.

To better protect the health of our employees and consumers, North Dakota Insurance Department office locations will not be taking walk-in traffic until May 1, 2020.

Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today issued a Bulletin to all North Dakota health and travel insurance companies regarding coverage and access to testing for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The bulletin urges companies to waive cost sharing requirements for the testing of COVID-19 and encourages health insurance companies to review other operations in preparation for COVID-19 potentially coming to North Dakota.

Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today encouraged renters, homeowners, farmers and business owners to better understand their flood risk and insurance coverage following a wet autumn and heavy winter snowfall.

The North Dakota Insurance Department was informed today that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has extended the Open Enrollment Period to accommodate consumers who attempted to enroll in coverage during the final hours of Open Enrollment but who may have experienced issues. The deadline to sign up for Jan. 1, 2020 coverage is now 2 a.m. CST on Dec. 18, 2019. 

Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today presented the Private Health Insurance Market Report for 2014-2018 to the legislative Health Care Committee at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Grand Forks. The report was compiled to provide North Dakotans with more information about the health insurance market in North Dakota.

The Insurance Department will again be hosting nine, statewide Medicare Part D Annual Enrollment Events beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 15 in Grand Forks. The events will provide Medicare beneficiaries of all ages with the opportunity to review, plan or shop for coverage options with the assistance of trained, volunteer counselors. This year, the hours of operation have been extended for the Fargo, Minot and Bismarck events, communities where attendance has been highest in past years.

Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today released the approved health insurance rates for both individual and small group plans for 2020. Godfread approved the 2020 rates which average up to 20% in savings for North Dakotans purchasing an individual health insurance plan due to the implementation of the state-based reinsurance program.
