Welcome to the Office of the North Dakota Fire Marshal
As a division of the North Dakota Insurance Department, protecting the public is our number one priority. Our role is to ensure buildings and products in the state meet fire safety standards and provide resources when fires occur. Along with investigating the origin of fires, we regulate fire prevention systems, building codes and combustibles.
Application for Acceptance of Plans
The following application is provided for contractors and the general public to help in conforming to applicable Fire Code requirements. Submit the forms to the local fire authority having jurisdiction, or, if no local authority, to the State Fire Marshal’s office.
Fire protection system plans must be submitted for acceptance prior to installation. Applications for installation in the following local Fire Department/Districts (FD) should be directed to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ): Bismarck, Devils Lake, Dickinson, Fargo, Grand Forks, Mandan, Minot City FD/Minot Rural FD, West Fargo, Southern Valley and Williston. For all other jurisdictions, submit the application and plans to the State Fire Marshal's Office.
