Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today urged North Dakotans to take advantage of the Special Enrollment Period (SEP) for health insurance coverage on the federally run health care exchange if they are currently without insurance. In accordance with the Executive Order issued by President Biden, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), announced the SEP in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Beginning Feb. 15, 2021 through May 15, 2021, this SEP will be open to all exchange-eligible consumers who are submitting a new application or updating an existing application.

Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today announced that the Insurance Department will begin scheduling telephone counseling appointments for Medicare Part D on Monday, Oct. 5, for appointments beginning after Oct. 15.
Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread has called upon the State Investment Board (SIB) to begin investing a portion of the Legacy Fund in investment projects within North Dakota. Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today presented the North Dakota 66th Legislative Assembly Interim Health Care Study to the legislative Health Care Committee. During the 66th Legislative Session, the North Dakota Insurance Department was tasked with assisting Legislative Management in conducting an interim study of health insurance premium trends. The study is unique because the legislature foresaw the need to look beyond insurance carriers and authorized the collection of data from hospitals within North Dakota.

Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today announced the issuance of Bulletin 2020-10 addressing coverage for COVID-19 (coronavirus) testing in response to Executive Order 2020-03 by Governor Doug Burgum. This new bulletin builds upon Bulletin 2020-1.1 in which health carriers and travel insurers are asked to identify and remove barriers to testing and treatment for COVID-19.

Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today applauded the issuance of "Shelter-in-Place-Payback" to car insurance drivers insured by Allstate and the creation of the “Return of Premium Relief Fund” by American Family Insurance. Allstate and American Family Insurance are returning savings resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Both Allstate and American Family Insurance have acknowledged that they arrived at these relief options for customers, in part, as a result of various bulletins and guidance from the North Dakota Insurance Department.

Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today announced the issuance of seven bulletins in response to executive orders made by Governor Doug Burgum and in the interest of protecting North Dakotans during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. COVID-19 is a highly contagious, viral disease for which the only known method of prevention is to avoid being exposed to the virus by reducing contact with other individuals.
