Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today brought together members of the North Dakota insurance industry to introduce a new data solution called Insurance Data Link (openIDL), governed by AAIS, a statistical agent and advisory organization, on IBM Blockchain. The openIDL is the first blockchain platform that enables efficient and secure sharing of statistical data like policy count, premium volume, claims and loss experience data.

Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today issued a cease and desist order to AirMedCare Network for selling air ambulance subscriptions to North Dakotans illegally. Consumer protection legislation enacted in 2017 banned the sale of air ambulance subscriptions in North Dakota.

The North Dakota Insurance Department was informed today that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has extended the Open Enrollment Period to accommodate consumers who attempted to enroll in coverage during the final hours of Open Enrollment but who may have experienced issues. The deadline to sign up for Jan. 1, 2020 coverage is now 2 a.m. CST on Dec. 18, 2019.

The Insurance Department will again be hosting nine, statewide Medicare Part D Annual Enrollment Events beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 15 in Grand Forks. The events will provide Medicare beneficiaries of all ages with the opportunity to review, plan or shop for coverage options with the assistance of trained, volunteer counselors. This year, the hours of operation have been extended for the Fargo, Minot and Bismarck events, communities where attendance has been highest in past years.

Godfread approved the 2020 rates which average up to 20% in savings for North Dakotans purchasing an individual health insurance plan due to the implementation of the state-based reinsurance program.
